Vitrification Technology
Vitrification is a rapid-freeze technique that eliminates ice crystal formation — the main cause of cell damage in conventional slow-freeze methods. At IRMC, retrieved mature eggs are vitrified within minutes of collection and stored in liquid nitrogen at -196°C, maintaining cellular integrity indefinitely.
When you're ready to use them, eggs are warmed and fertilised using the same precise protocol used during freezing, ensuring cellular integrity is maintained throughout.
Who Should Consider Egg Freezing?
- ✦ Women aged 25-38 not yet ready for pregnancy
- ✦ Patients facing cancer treatment or surgery
- ✦ Those with family history of early menopause
- ✦ Anyone seeking reproductive autonomy
What to Expect
- ✦ 10-14 days of ovarian stimulation injections
- ✦ Monitoring every 1-2 days
- ✦ Day-procedure egg retrieval under sedation
- ✦ 15-20 mature eggs is an ideal harvest
Common Questions
What is the best age to freeze eggs? +
The ideal window is between 25 and 35. Egg quantity and quality are highest in the mid-to-late twenties and decline more rapidly after 35. That said, successful cycles are achievable beyond this range — we recommend an ovarian reserve assessment to guide your timing.
How many eggs should I freeze? +
For women under 35, banking 10–15 mature eggs gives a reasonable chance of at least one successful pregnancy. The number retrieved per cycle varies by individual ovarian reserve. Some patients complete one to two stimulation cycles to reach their target.
How long can frozen eggs be stored? +
Vitrified eggs can be stored in liquid nitrogen indefinitely. Long-term studies show no decline in egg viability over time when stored correctly. IRMC offers flexible storage terms with annual renewal.
Does egg freezing affect future fertility? +
No. The ovarian stimulation used for egg freezing does not deplete your remaining egg supply beyond what would occur in a natural cycle. The process retrieves eggs that would otherwise be lost in that month's natural cycle.
Does egg retrieval hurt? +
The retrieval is a brief day-procedure performed under light sedation. Most patients experience mild cramping or bloating during the stimulation phase. Recovery is typically straightforward, with most patients returning to normal activities within 24–48 hours.
